Prologue: Memories of WillinghamVeteran residents talk of their life and times to children of Willingham Primary School (not open to the general public). A film of past village galas will also be shown.

Willingham Primary School Music Concert
Featuring the choir, school band, ukulele club and recorder ensemble – a unique occasion: the frisson of children performing enhanced by exceptional church acoustics. Free admission, collection at the door.

  Friday 8 October


3 – 5 pm, Ploughman Hall
Seniors’ Tea Party with Entertainment
Teas, cakes, scones, all the usual goodies – prepared and served by the Willingham W.I. and all free of charge to the retired residents of Willingham – with special thanks to the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, Willingham Billavincea Lodge, for their generous cash donation. The entertainment will include performances by children from the primary school and a film of
past village galas. Motorised transport will be available.

Bell Ringing to Herald Feast Weekend

6.30 pm, The Green
Candle-Lit Launch Party
Ground-based lanterns to light up the sky as we start our festivities – buy yours (£1 a lantern or £3 for 4) and join in the fun!! Arco Samba Band (www.arcoiris.org.uk) will be playing and BBQ and refreshments provided by the Willingham Scouts.
Bring a picnic and chairs/mats and a torch for a Feast on the Green (weather permitting, of course). Weather Check

Linen at Home
Unfortunately, this event has had to be cancelled due to events that were possibly under our control but which we spectacularly failed to control! A lesson learnt for next time!!

  Saturday 9 October

9 am – 1 pm, Willingham Primary School
Feast Market/WSA Car Boot Sale

A wide range of produce will be available, including natural whole food, Sri Lankan specialities, local beef, jams, biscuits and cider. Many non-food items such as jewellery, Christmas gifts, stained glass, children’s toys, garden plants, books, pottery, eco-friendly cosmetics & detergents, and all those fantastic bargains you get from a car boot sale. For younger visitors there will be story-telling, soft play, and an inflatable slide and an assault course (weather permitting - Weather Check). There will also be a spinning demonstration, a film of past Willingham galas, children’s country dancing and morris dancing ... To book a stall/pitch and for further info:

Treasure Hunt
Organised by Mike Tidball who will be handing out a fresh set of cryptic clues for this year. Cash prizes

1.30 – 4.30 pm, Ploughman Hall
Scalextric Grand Prix
The biggest track ever – well over 100 feet! £1 per race (5 mins, four contestants including a few warm-up laps). With leader board and prizes for the fastest times, plus a ‘Crash and Burn’ finale.

Posh cup cakes (www.emmascupcakekitchen.t83.net), tea, coffee, bar and bar snacks.

A fun event for the whole family. Tickets in advance and at the door. Look for details and sellers at the school.

Ceilidh
Again with live band Pigeon English, so popular last year! Tickets £8 adults, £6 under-18s – on sale at Willingham Post Office and The Duke of Wellington. Numbers limited to 100 (20 fewer than last year), so be quick. Bar and bar snacks.

9 am – 1 pm, The Green
Multi-Modal Pilgrimage to Ely Cathedral
Walkers meet at the Green at 9.00 am.

Pilgrims will receive a mass blessing at the shrine of St. Ethelreda (it’ll send shivers up your spine!). This is at 1 pm, so be there by 12.45 pm. No obligation, of course. Cheesy chips and liquid refreshments will be taken at the Cutter Inn. Free motorised return transport will be arranged for walkers and runners applying for this in advance.

The more people that come, the merrier it will be. Let’s get the excitement back into this event!!

Unless otherwise stated: All proceeds to Willingham Action Group/Willingham Youth Trust (WYT). The Trust is in the process of formation as a Charity with limited company status, currently having eight Trustees, with the objective of attracting funds in order to establish dedicated youth facilities for the village.
